Haskoning New Zealand, a company of Royal HaskoningDHV, is seeking an experienced Principal Engineer with significant understanding and knowledge of hydrology, flood hydraulics, flood analytics and fluvial processes. The ideal candidate will have significant experience with a demonstrated ability to grow and further develop our modelling consultancy services.
We have a significant amount of forward work related to the modelling of flood plains, estuarine/river systems and the individual we are seeking will be able to lead and grow our rivers and water management team, mentor with strong leadership and ensure the quality of deliverables in this integral area of our business.
What will you do
You will help us expand our flood and water resources management offering, design and modelling services, grow our team in NZ and promote our skills externally to our clients and the marketplace. You will (personally or as part of a wider team that you oversee) deliver discipline-specific engineering and advisory management projects, including modelling, reporting and design (where required and as appropriate) solutions and services that meet the Company’s, clients and applicable statutory and regulatory requirements. You will play a key role in growing our expertise and will also significantly contribute to account management and our profitability and reputation. You will have an outward-looking client focus, with an ability to prioritise work-winning, delivering quality solutions and gaining high levels of client satisfaction.
You will:
- Initiate, manage and supervise Flood Resilience and Water Resources engineering assignments on projects that meet project requirements on time and within budget.
- Provide leadership of our rivers and water management team, mentoring, supervising and instructing team members in technical works as well as professional development.
- Assist where appropriate in business development (meeting clients, identifying opportunities, writing capability statements, preparing marketing materials).
- Checking and reviewing model methodologies, results, data analysis, reports and other work as required.
- Undertake all office and company procedures necessary for the company to properly conduct its business (completing time sheets, leave applications, job records, invoicing).
- Undertake continuing professional development.
- Participate in in-house training in company procedures, workplace safety instruction and various site safety courses as required.
- Provide input to leadership team, in relation to:
- effectiveness of the local business;
- emerging opportunities;
- achievement of business goals including client development, skill development; and, project realisation and delivery.
- Provide technical direction of design and advisory assignments in the context of project requirements of delivery on time and within budget, whilst achieving target utilisation (on project work).
- Participate in development of local technical systems and standards, and integration with the broader Royal HaskoningDHV knowledge base.
Account Management
- Participate in the development of the client base throughout Australia & NZ through the interaction with clients including strong face-to-face engagement.
- To manage and run a number of high-profile client accounts in our key sectors. You will be expected to maximize the market value from these clients through constant account management techniques.
Training and Knowledge Transfer
- To provide encouragement and learning opportunities for staff to support ongoing and future business and to further career development.
- Consult and liaise with colleagues to share information, lessons learnt, innovative approaches to problem solving, and the like.
- Identify issues /problems and develop appropriate and innovative solutions, involving other staff inputs as needed.
- Keep up-to-date with the latest developments and technical innovations in the discipline and guide the dissemination of this information throughout the AG.
Where you will work
This role can be based from our Auckland, Sydney, Newcastle or Brisbane offices. We offer a hybrid working arrangement with an expectation of 60% office work. There may be a requirement to travel and work remotely domestically or internationally to fulfill work commitments.
What you bring
You will have previous experience and working knowledge of hydrology, flood hydraulics, flood analytics and fluvial processes. Specifically you will have:
- Degree qualified & chartered civil or environmental engineer.
- Practical experience of working with multi-disciplinary teams to deliver innovative and tailored solutions.
- Competency in a range of Water Resources, Flood Resilience Modelling and Flood Risk Analytics Software, including TUFLOW (essential), WBNM, RAFTS, 3Di, DRAINS, MUSIC, 12D.
- Competency in a range of Design, GIS and mapping software tools.
- Competency in Programming software: MATLAB, Python.
- Essential experience in flood related projects including Flood Studies and Floodplain Risk Management Studies, Flood Impact Assessments and Climate Change Impact Assessments for government bodies across Australia and/or NZ.
- Strong client liaison, management and relationship development skills.
- The ability to direct and advise on technical matters, mentor and manage project teams.
- Ability to contribute to the growth of the business by identifying, track and executing opportunities.
- Ability to manage interfaces with design teams (both internal and external).
